One of the best parts about our modular thesis is that it also applies to Bitcoin. We are seeing the same ideas of bringing next-gen VMs to Bitcoin scaling in the same way that we see with with Ethereum rollups.

Notably, the tech hurdles to actually get an SVM rollup on bitcoin is much harder.

Today we are specifically focusing on integrating the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) onto Bitcoin. This idea aims to bring the fastest programmable execution layer to Bitcoin.

In our interview with Chase from Molecule, we dive deep into the technical aspects and potential of SVM. He shares insights on why the team believes next-gen VMs, like SVM, can significantly enhance Bitcoin’s capabilities.

One of the primary challenges with Bitcoin has been its inability to natively support smart contracts and dApps. Molecule addresses this by exploring two main solutions: sidechains and rollups (L2s). While sidechains are faster to market, they don’t inherit Bitcoin’s security. On the other hand, rollups settle on Bitcoin and inherit its security, though they require more R&D currently (as we’ve discussed thus far).

The discussion also touched on the importance of a modular approach to Bitcoin due to its L1 restrictions. Technologies like OP-CAT, expected to be implemented in the next 6-12 months, will simplify complex transactions, enabling *actual* ZK rollups.

As we continue to embark on this journey together, we hope you enjoy the technical learnings as much as we do!
